V to W - Acronyms and Glossary (Children, Schools and Families)

Acronym Meaning
VA Voluntary Aided – A denominational (church) or trust school whose buildings are owned by the diocese. The school receives funding for the pupils from the LEA. A high percentage of governors are nominated by the church and the governors of the school set the rules for taking new pupils.
VACK Visual, Audio, Computational and Kinaesthetic - types of learners
VC Voluntary Controlled – A denominational(church) school whose buildings are owned by the county council. All funding comes from the LEA who also set the rules for admitting new pupils
VDU Visual Display Unit - for example a computer
VI Visually Impaired - type of SEN
Viewpoint A computer based software programme that seeks to obtain the views of children about aspects of their lives. This has included specific programmes for Children Looked After.
Visiting Teacher Members of the Specialist Advisory Service, visiting teachers are specialists in their area of expertise. They offer advice to families and school staff and work alongside them to plan, deliver and monitor specialist programmes for children.
