My front-line role
I am the Conservative County Councillor for Hitchin Rural division. The ‘Your Community’ section provides local service information, news, events, and contacts about the area.
The division of Hitchin rural comprises eight Parish Councils and Oughton with the Westmill Estate, all told an electorate of approximately 9500 people.
I keep in close touch with all the communities and am particularly able to help them with the use of my locality budget.
As is the case with every County Councillor, I have a locality budget of £10,000 a year to spend on community projects in the division. Follow the links for more details of the scheme and details of applications I have previously agreed and declined.
My County Council responsibilities
I was elected in April 2000 and have had the honour being Chairman of the Council from 2007 to 2009. I currently sit on the Pensions Committee, Development Control Committee and Audit Committee. I am also a member of the Hertfordshire Police Authority.
Personal, professional and political details
I spent 43 years working in the City of London, initially in accountancy and subsequently with an international commodity firm, being particularly concerned with the shipping side as a broker on the Baltic Exchange where I was also a director.
