The Castle and grounds are situated in the centre of Hertford. Open on occasional Sundays for Gatehouse tours and band concerts in summer. The Downshire Suite is available for hire for wedding receptions, meetings and seminars or special occasions.

Hertford Castle is an Approved Ceremony Venue.

Hertford Castle, a magnificent Grade I Listed building, is a haven of peace and tranquility, set amidst a picturesque and historic setting alongside the River Lea and hidden by the magnificent flint and stone curtain wall. The gatehouse was transformed into a stately home by the Marquess of Downshire in the 1780's, remodelled in Georgian style, with beautiful ornate fireplaces and gothic windows.
