ActOne was established in the year 2000 by Suzie Scambler choreographer and arts accessibilty specialist. Under the ActOne umbrella are projects, schools and workshops to suit any age group and ability.
ActOne is proud to be an 'inclusive' company and they specialise integrating young people and adults from any background, disabled and mainstream and whatever their skill. All ActOne staff are experienced special needs practitioners as well as trained performers.
The company runs two weekly projects in Hatfield and Ware: DanceBase (5 years+). These projects are integrated for people of any ability with an interest in dance. CommunityBase is ActOne's community arm and runs regular projects for other groups, including Special Act in Harpenden, for learning disabled young people and their siblings.
ActOne also offers a range of workshops that can be tailor made for any age, from schools and youth groups to adults, from one-day sessions to week-long courses. They focus on integration during all the workshops, promoting acceptance and encouraging individual creativity.
Their philosophy is to "encourage and stimulate through the arts", and their participants build confidence and self-esteem whilst rehearsing and entertaining audiences in one of their regular performance.
