This ensemble has established an international reputation for its performances of contemporary British wind orchestra music. As well as undertaking concerts in Hertfordshire and at major venues such as the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, the orchestra has performed at London's Barbican Hall, St John's, Smith Square and the Royal Academy of Music.
The orchestra has recorded three CDs and has a splendid track record of commissioning new works and presenting first performances.
Currently conducted by Mark Eager, the County Wind Sinfonia undertakes two courses each year, usually during the Easter and Summer holidays. The upper age limit is 21 and in most cases the entry standard is Grade VII, although there are sometimes exceptions for minority instruments. As well as featuring brass, percussion and wind instruments, the orchestra has been known to include harp, piano and string bass players.
