Whilst redistributing unwanted furniture the project provides training and volunteering opportunities to ex-offenders and people recovering from mental illness.
Every year they redistribute 4000 items of low-cost second-hand furniture and white goods. People on benefits get a 50% discount. People in urgent need can be referred by Social Services and other agencies and will receive priority treatment. A collection and delivery service is available.
They also reupholster items, including dining chairs and ottomans.
The Dacorum Paradise Furniture Project also runs:
* An office furniture scheme, redistributing furniture salvaged from office refits and end of lines to charities, schools and small businesses.
They offer training for people recovering from mental illness in upholstery, woodwork, admin, IT and warehousing. Their 'Positive Ways' training course offers specialist training to ex-offenders in construction skills and includes training in forklift driving.
