Find a good trader

Hertfordshire Trading Standards knows how important it is to use a good trader but also how hard it is to find one. Please use recommendations from friends or family that have had good work done or use our good trader scheme. Always get 2 or 3 traders in to quote for the work, to help ensure that you are getting the best price and workmanship for the job. We have been running the TrustMark good trader scheme in Hertfordshire for the last 4 years. We check traders complaint histories, ask for references from previous customers, check insurances, make sure that their paperwork is all in order, ensure that they have mandatory qualifications such as to carry out gas or electrical work and check that if they say they are qualified or a member of  an association that they really are.

As the scheme has been so successful and as a result of listening to residents, we have made the decision to now extend our good trader scheme from just home maintenance trades to cover all trades, including retailers, from car dealers to mobility aid sellers. This new good trader scheme is called Buy With Confidence.

We will be carrying out the same checks on those traders as previously, along with a basic police DBS check, to help reassure customers when works are being carried out in their homes, that they will be safe.
