The Mayor of Hertsmere for 2007 / 2008 is Cllr. Martin Saunders.

Civic Office Hours:
Monday to Thursday - 8.30am to 5.15pm;
Friday 8.30am to 5.00pm.

The Council also operates two Area Offices, at Bushey and Potters Bar, which provide a wide range of information and leaflets

The Area Offices are open from 9.30am to 2.00pm Monday to Friday.

Council Departments:

Corporate Support - This department is responsible for: Cultural Services including 50+ Scheme, children and youth activities, Crime and Disorder partnerships.

Building Control - This department is responsible for: New Buildings; Alterations and Extensions to existing buildings; Building Demolitions and Dangerous Structures. The department also offers advice on construction, regulations, applications and demolitions.

Environmental Health - This department is responsible for: Dog Warden; Drainage (in private sector); Food Hygiene and Safety; Health Safety; Infectious Diseases and Food Poisoning; Licensing of Entertainment Venues; Pest Control; Noise, Air and Water Pollution; Public Toilets; Taxi and Private Hire Vehicle Licensing.

Housing Services Unit - This department is responsible for Hertsmere's Housing Register; Housing Conditions; Housing Grants. The Council does not own its own housing, but it nominates people for housing vacancies that occur in the stock of Housing Associations with properties in Hertsmere. The Unit can also assist with homeless applicants. See records for William Sutton Housing Association and Aldwyck Housing Association

Planning Unit - This department is responsible for: Conservation; Listed Buildings; Planning Applications and Appeals; Planning Policy and Tree Advice.

Revenues and Benefits Unit - This department is responsible for: Council Tax Collection; Council Tax Benefits; Housing Benefits; Concessionary Fares Scheme and Bus Passes.

Waste & Street Scene - This department is responsible for: Refuse Collection; Street Cleaning; Recycling; Kerbside Paper Collection; Clinical Waste; Abandoned Vehicles; Grounds Maintenance, Parks, Cemeteries; Allotments and Grass Cutting.
