Organisations on the look out for volunteers

A wide range of groups need volunteers to help them do what they do best - helping others. Below is a list of organisations who are often on the look out for new volunteers. The list is by no means comprehensive and there are lots of others out there providing worthy opportunities. Are you a young person interested in sport? Herts Sports Partnership: The world of sport provides a wealth of opportunities for young people to become involved in varied volunteering opportunities.

Are you interested in helping people cope with crime? Victim Support Hertfordshire: Victim Support depends upon many thousands of people who give up their time to help victims recover from the distress caused by crime. Volunteers are welcome from all sections of the community.

Are you interested in becoming a prison visitor? Both SOVA and HACRO encourage volunteering in the Criminal Justice System.

Are you interested in becoming a school governor? Hertfordshire County Council's School Governors Unit: Governors are the people making important decisions about how every school is run. There is always a need for enthusiastic and committed people to serve as governors

Are you interested in becoming a mentor? Herts Mentoring Network: Are you interested in working with others to support them in achieving their full potential? Herts Mentoring network is a group dedicated to promoting and supporting mentoring of all types in Hertfordshire.

Are you interested in becoming a trustee of a voluntary or charitable group Herts CVS Group: Groups are run by management committees or boards made up of trustees whose role is to make sure that the charity does what it was set up to do. If you are interested in helping a group in your area contact your local council for voluntary service for more details.

Are you interested in becoming a magistrate? Herts Advisory Committee for the Appointment of Justices of the Peace: Applications as Justices of the Peace otherwise known as Magistrates are welcomed from candidates with a wide range of occupations and backgrounds. It is important that applicants have an interest in and are actively involved in their local communities and be able to devote sufficient time to the work of the bench.
