Career Events for Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic People
Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service will be holding career events to help recruit firefighters who reflect the communities they serve.
Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue will be holding open days for Black, Asian and other minority ethnic people, to encourage people who are currently under-represented in the fire service to find out more about being a firefighter.
Deputy Chief Fire Officer, Mark Yates said: “Sadly many people still think that you need to be a burly white male to join the fire service and it is not the case.
“There is now a steady interest from identified under-represented groups who are thinking about firefighting as a professional career.
“The aim of this event is to raise awareness for potential applicants who, in the past, were less likely to apply to be firefighters. We recruit firefighters on the basis of required skills for the job, regardless of their gender, sexuality or cultural background.”
Keith Emsall, Executive Member for Community Safety said: "These open day events are important as the Service hopes to recruit more people who reflect the communities they serve. It is an opportunity for people to find out more about being a firefighter in a modern fire service. "
