Standard Tables results - 2001 census

Results from the Standard Tables are produced in the form of a series of 115 cross-tabulated tables covering a wide range of census subjects and 15 theme tables providing data for the following geographic areas: national, regional, local authorities, wards, and health areas. Theme tables bring together results on a range of subjects for a particular population base e.g. pensioners or dependent children. The topics covered in the Standard Tables are shown in the lists below.

The Standard Tables are the most detailed tables available from the census but are only available at ward geographic level and above to prevent the disclosure of personal information.

Due to the vast amount of information available in the Standard Tables, only a selection of results can be published here. For queries on tables that do not appear here please contact us and we can provide you with the data.

Data from the Standard Tables, including the Theme Tables, are now available on the web on NOMIS, a service run by the University of Durham under contract to ONS. Users can choose to select all or part of a Standard Table, and view and download the data for the main census geographies from ward level upwards, within England and Wales. The tables are available at www.nomisweb.co.uk/home/census2001.asp.

Selected results for local authorities and wards in Hertfordshire from the Standard Tables and for local authorities (and wards for some tables) from the Standard Theme Tables have been published below.

Excel spreadsheets with data from Standard Tables for England and Wales as a whole are available on the National Statistics website. Choose the "Census 2001" icon at the top of the National Statistics homepage and then use the Advanced search to search for "National Report" or the table number e.g. S001 and "Data".
