Origin-Destination matrices results - 2001 census
Results from the Origin-Destination matrices are produced in the form of a series of tables called Special Migration Statistics (Migration matrices) and Special Workplace Statistics (Travel to work matrices), for the following geographic areas: Local authorities, wards and output areas. Not all the matrices are available for all these areas.
The Migration matrices provide information on people who had moved in the 12 months prior to Census Day, including where they moved from and to and other characteristics such as age, ethnic group and household composition.
The Travel to work matrices provide information on workers, including where they live and work, their method of travel and other characteristics such as age, ethnic group and industry of occupation.
The topics and geographic areas covered in the tables are shown in the list below.
Advice on the statistical variability of the results due to the rounding of small counts is available below.
Due to the vast amount of information available in the Origin- Destination matrices, only selected extracts from the results will be published here.
Summary statistics from the Travel to work matrices are available below for settlements in Hertfordshire in the form of commuting profiles.
Data from the Travel to work Matrices are now available on the web on NOMIS, a service run by the University of Durham under contract to ONS. Users can choose to select all or part of a Table, and view and download the data for the main census geographies from ward level upwards, within England and Wales. The tables are available at www.nomisweb.co.uk/home/census2001.asp.
