Census Area Statistics tables results - 2001 census

Results from the Census Area Statistics tables are produced in the form of a series of 80 multivariate tables covering a wide range of census subjects, 9 themed tables and 66 univariate tables providing data for the following geographic areas: national, regional, local authorities, wards, output areas and health areas. Theme tables bring together results on a range of subjects for a particular population base e.g. ethnic group or dependent children. The Univariate Tables are similar to the Key Statistics tables but include slightly more detail. The topics covered in the Census Area Statistics tables are shown in the lists below.

The Census Area Statistics multivariate and theme tables are similar to the Standard Tables but are slightly less detailed to ensure the anonymity of individuals. This is because they are presented for output areas and are the most detailed results at this level.

Due to the vast amount of information available in the Census Area Statistics multivariate and themed tables, none of these results will be published here. There may be equivalent tables in the Standard Tables (usually with the same table number e.g. CAS001 = S001). These may have been published on hertsdirect.org at local authority and ward levels, please see "Standard Table results". For queries on any of the Census Area Statistics tables please contact us and we can provide you with the data.

Data from the Census Area Statistics multivariate tables, including the Theme Tables, are now available on the web on NOMIS, a service run by the University of Durham under contract to ONS. Users can choose to select all or part of a CAS table, and view and download the data for the main census geographies within England and Wales. The tables are available at www.nomisweb.co.uk/home/census2001.asp.

Selected results for local authorities and wards in Hertfordshire from the Univariate Tables have been published below for census subjects not covered in other published results. The remaining Univariate Tables at output area level and above in England and Wales are available to view and download on the National Statistics website under Neighbourhood Statistics. Click on the "Neighbourhood" Icon at the top of the National Statistics Homepage to get access.

Please note that ONS have decided not to release Tables UV77 (Industry of employment) and UV79 (Occupation) due to worries about identifying individuals in these workplace based tables. Workplace based results for Industry and Occupation are available in the Standard Tables.
