HCS	Hertfordshire Careers Services Ltd – since April 1993 the Careers function has operated separately from the county council
HCVYS	Herts Council of Voluntary Youth services – refer to Youth Service
HCTP	Hertfordshire Children's Trust Partnership

HEADLAMP	Headteachers Leadership and Management Programme
Health Trust	Provides the service purchased by the District Health Authority
HEBP	Herts Educational Business Partnership – linked to the Learning and Skills Council
HEF	Hertfordshire Educational Foundation – small grant giving body administered within Hertfordshrie County Council
HEFC	Higher Education Funding Council
HEI	Higher Education Inspectorate/Inspector
HES	Hertfordshire Education Services – now called the School Standards and Curriculum division within Children, Schools and Families
HEMP	Hertfordshire Education Management Partnership
HGfL	Hertfordshire Grid for Learning
HHA	Hertfordshire Health Agency
HHAH	Hertfordshire Health Action for the Homeless
HHES	Hospital and Home Education Service – team within CSF
HHSP	Hertfordshire Healthy Schools Programme
HI	Hearing Impaired – type of Special Education Need (SEN)
Higher Education	Courses leading to qualifications like a degree or a higher national diploma. They can be taken at university, a college of higher education or some further education colleges

HITAC	Herts Info Across the Curriculum – no longer in operation
HKD	Hyperkinetic disorder
HLA	Hertfordshire Local Authority
HMCI	Her Majesty’s Chief Inspector (of schools in England)
HMI	Her Majesty's Inspector/Inspectorate
HMSO	Her Majesty’s Stationery Office – now The Stationery Office – see also TSO
HNC	Higher National Certificate
HND	Higher National Diploma
HoD	Head of Department
HO	Hertfordshire Observatory
Home Authority	The authority which holds case responsibility, or if not known to Children's Social Care, where the child is living - this could be either an originating or receiving authority
Host Authority	The authority where a child may be found, visiting for a short break or in receipt of specified services e.g. education - could be either a receivoing authority without case responsibility or an entirely different aythority
