Services for people with a physical disability and/or sensory need
A new strategy for services for people with a physical disability and/or sensory need is being developed this year. In particular, we recognise the need to develop better ways of meeting the needs of younger adults.
We will:
- Sustain our performance on the speedy delivery of essential equipment to promote independence and reduce risk
- Increase choice and control through the use of direct payments, individual budgets and promoting the use of the independent living fund
- Develop plans and services for young people in transition from children’s to adult services
- Review the provision of residential care and voluntary sector services with a view to promoting choice and control to the users of these services
- Make an effective contribution to the county council’s disability equality scheme
- Develop the role of resource centres in local communities to offer assessment of need and access to services and equipment
- With district and borough council partners, review arrangements for disabled facilities grants to speed up the issuing process
