Gypsy services

The county council continues to manage permanent accommodation and provide support at ten council sites as well as to families living in houses in Hertfordshire.

The Housing Act 2004 – Part 6 has strengthened the working partnerships with district councils to undertake an accommodation needs survey of gypsies and travellers to ensure adequate provision across the county.

Moving forward, we will:
  • Work with district councils to support the development of a county-wide action plan to address identified accommodation needs
  • Improve our processes for reporting and undertaking repairs and maintenance as a result of the feedback from the user survey
  • Expand the membership of the tenant consultation group to represent gypsies and travellers from across the county to provide a more effective voice to improve services through inter-agency partnerships
