Services for people who misuse drugs and alcohol

This service currently supports approximately 7,000 users. The overall aim of the service is to ensure a wide range of quality and accessible treatment services across Hertfordshire. We must ensure we meet key targets aimed at improving the number of drug users receiving treatment, meeting waiting times and ensuring clients are supported to complete their treatment programme.

We will do this by:
  • Embarking on a major re-commissioning of drug and alcohol services with a number of structured and low threshold treatment interventions
  • Improving the housing resettlement service in conjunction with the Supporting People programme and also progress2work – which provides employment support to drug users (see link to Jobcentre plus on right of this page)
  • Further developing the support for, and involvement of, users and carers
  • Continual development of treatment systems to ensure there are clear pathways both in to and out of treatment
  • Implementing a comprehensive blood borne virus service to offer testing and vaccination services for drug users in and out of treatment
