Crime prevention

The Crime and Drugs Strategy Unit, which is now part of Adult Care Services, is responsible for co-ordinating and delivering the council’s policy on reducing crime and substance misuse. In doing so, the unit satisfies the council’s statutory obligation to work in partnership with the police, district councils and other agencies to ensure our communities feel safe.

The main focus of the unit, in conjunction with partner agencies, is to reduce anti-social behaviour and the fear of crime, reduce the harmful effects that alcohol and drug misuse can have on our communities, and reduce crime levels across the county.

We will do this by:
  • Working with partner agencies to achieve the targets set out in the Local Area Agreement (see link on right of this page)
  • Further developing the work of the MIDAS mapping project to improve the sharing of information across the different agencies involved in crime prevention
  • Continuing to support the provision of community support officers operating in the county and working with the police to target their deployment in areas of identified need
