Registration is not compulsory. However, the register helps us to inform blind and partially sighted adults living in Hertfordshire of the wide range of support available to them.
A sight impaired person will not be refused services from the county council’s Sensory Services Team if they are not registered.
People who are registered blind are entitled to
a Blue Badge Parking Permit,
and, possibly, additional benefits and tax allowances
People who are registered as either blind or partially sighted (that is, unable to use phonebooks) are entitled to
a free radio from the Wireless for the Blind Fund,
a free directory enquiry service from BT (to register or for further enquiries dial 195 free of charge)
talking book cassettes from Hertfordshire Library Service
If you would like further information or advice on registering as sight impaired, contact Adult Care Services. For contact details select the 'Contact Us' link on the left of this page.
