Sensory Services

Services for adults and children who are deaf or hard of hearing
Our specialist social workers with deaf people are fully trained and qualified social workers with additional training and experience in working with people who have severe hearing loss, many of whom communicate in British Sign Language.

The social workers will assess people's needs for special equipment such as television amplifiers and visual call systems. In many cases we can provide equipment free of charge, on long term loan.

Services for adults and children who are blind or partially sighted
Our rehabilitation workers can help partially sighted and blind people to develop ways of coping with sight loss by:
  • discussing their eye condition with them and the problems it causes for them and their families,
  • enabling them to make the most of what sight remains, and
  • giving advice on what specialist equipment is available.
We can also help you be more independent and manage everyday living safely by offering practical help with personal care, kitchen skills, getting around indoors and out, and adapting to different methods of communication.

We are based at:
Woodside Centre, The Commons, Welwyn Garden City, Herts AL7 4SE

For details of how to contact us, select the link called Contact Us (top left of screen). We are part of the Adult Care Services Department.
