A home care service arranged by Adult Care Services
Home care plays an important role in keeping people as independent as possible.
We are developing home care services to help people do things for themselves and so regain some independence. At present we arrange home care for just over 6,000 older people and many other adults of all ages and disabilities.
We cannot help everyone, so priority is given to people whose safety, health, welfare or independence are considered to be at 'critical' or 'substantial' risk. Further information is in the link called 'Am I eligible for help?'.
The homecare services we arrange are becoming more flexible, with more choice in the service you receive. The Direct Payments scheme gives you money to organise your own home care service. There are also specialist home carers who provide skilled support to older people with mental health problems.
If we arrange home care for you, the cost will depend on your financial situation. Some people on low incomes get free home care, others pay something. If you have savings over £21,500, or enough income to afford it, you pay the whole cost.
