Shopping, gardening & practical services (Broxbourne)
Help with care domestic tasks
There are a number of agencies that offer services such as personal care, regular cleaning and other housework, and one-off heavier domestic tasks. There are also specialist companies that deal with carpet cleaning, window cleaning, etc. All of these are listed in the Yellow Pages and Thomson Directory.
If you are looking for someone who can provide a degree of personal care as well as cleaning then Nursing and Care Agencies are most likely to be able to provide this.
An up to date list of care agencies approved by Hertfordshire County Council is available. Select the link 'How to find a home care agency' (below), or by contacting Adult Care Services.
It is also possible to enter into a private arrangement to employ someone to undertake household tasks. If you do this it is advisable to employ only people who have been recommended to you or who can supply suitable references.
Hairdressers
Many hairdressers can provide a home visiting service. Some day centres and lunch clubs also arrange for hairdressers to come to their site.
Gardening
If you have difficulty maintaining your garden, apart from employing someone to do this for you, you may be able to get assistance from a local organisation.
Commercial organisations or individuals may also offer gardening services. Before agreeing to have any work done it is advisable to ask for a written quotation and also for the names of people for whom they have previously done work.
Shopping Services
Many local shops as well as the larger supermarkets offer a home delivery service - often free of charge within the local area. Supermarkets may also offer assistance with shopping for people who have disabilities.
As well as the long-established catalogue retailers many high street stores now have mail order and delivery services available online and by telephone.
Some voluntary organisations have also set up local shopping schemes, either to deliver shopping or to provide transport to the shops. Your local Volunteer Bureau may have details of these.
