Support services other organisations can provide
Local services
There are many local community services that can make life easier for people who are elderly or have a disability. These are the type of services not provided by the county council, for example many shops now will deliver services such as food and prescriptions. You can also get services from your local district council, voluntary organisations and home care agencies. These are things such as:
- Befriending schemes and carer support groups
- Equipment, adaptations and repairs to the home
- Luncheon clubs and local day centres
- Shopping & gardening services
- Meals on wheels
- Community alarms to summon help
- Sheltered housing with a warden service
- Dial-a-ride and other services to help with mobility
We have also included information about local health services - chemists, chiropodists, dentists, doctors and opticians. Use the links below to find local services in your district.
Select the link called 'Which district am I in?' (on the right of this page) to confirm which district or borough council covers where you live.
