Will I have to pay? - Charges for Adult Care and Supporting People services

The county council’s Adult Care Services arranges assistance such as home care and day care services to help people live at home and keep their independence for as long as possible.

Since April 2003, the county council also pays for housing related support services under the Government's 'Supporting People' programme, which aims to help people to live independently.

Current standard costs are £37.46 per day for day care and £16.48 per hour for home care (April 2008 – March 2009). The cost of housing support services depends on the services you receive and who provides them.

If you have savings or capital over £22,250, we will ask you to pay the full cost of your services, up to a maximum of £334.00 a week (even if your services cost more). Capital does not include the value of your house or possessions.

If your savings and capital are less than £22,250, we will work out a weekly charge based on your savings, income and benefits. In some cases this could mean you pay nothing.

There are some circumstances when there is no charge for services. Details of these are in the link called 'When charges won't apply' (below).

IMPORTANT: These pages are a summary of information about paying for services. Full information is in leaflets published by Adult Care Services.
