Funding will come from money that Adult Care Services already spends on social care. This initiative has the potential to be more creative and make better use of resources by encouraging the support of family and friends.
For example: If it was agreed that you should have help to overcome loneliness or isolation then you may choose to spend your individual budget on going to a club or developing a new interest. In order for you to do this, you may find that family and friends can help you, or provide help in another way. We think you will be happier with this rather than one of the services that we could arrange for you, and this may well cost less overall.
By giving people more control over their care and support the Government thinks they will get better value for money, so that the same money will actually go further.
Will I have to pay?
You may be asked to make a financial contribution towards your individual budget. You will be assessed for this.
