What can the individual budget be spent on?
You can spend the money to help you meet your needs and provide the support and care you require. Your support plan must ensure that you stay safe and well and must not be used to help you to engage in any unlawful or illegal activities.
Some of the ways the budget could be spent include:
- Buying in-house social care services from Hertfordshire County Council. For example, the use of a homecare service, attending a day-care service etc.
- Buying services from an agency or organisation.
- Employing support workers or personal assistants. These can be friends or family members, as long as that person does not live with you.
- Paying expenses for unpaid helpers
- Buying specialist equipment or renovations.
For example, buying a stair lift, raised toilet seat etc.
- Paying holiday or other expenses for your carer, so they can have a break.
- Paying for things that will improve your social life.
For example, one lady has used her money to pay to go to a slimming club. This has improved both her health and mental wellbeing.
Whichever option you choose for the delivery of your care needs, you will be supported and your needs reviewed regularly.
