What help and support can I get when I apply for direct payments?

If you want to apply for direct payments, or receive them already, help and support is available from the Leonard Cheshire Direct Payments Support Scheme. This is an independent, voluntary agency that can advise and support you with things such as:
  • Preparing for an assessment of your needs.
  • Looking at different ways of living as independently as possible.
  • Getting direct payments and other funding to pay for personal assistance.
  • Recruiting and employing personal assistants.
  • Buying services from agencies.
For further details please select the Leonard Cheshire Direct Payments Support Scheme link under 'External links' on the right of this page.

The Department of Health produces a free information pack called An easy guide to direct payments which contains information available in a colour booklet with large print, a tape or CDRom. You can request a copy of this by selecting the Dept of Health: publications link on the right of this page.

IMPORTANT: These pages are a summary of information about direct payments. Full information is in a leaflet called IT's your life - take control published by Adult Care Services. To view the full text online, or order copies, select the Adult Care Services Publications link and navigate to the Staying independent section.
