Accreditation of Supporting People services

Hertfordshire will now carry out Accreditation in line with the agreed Eastern Region procedure. This will be of benefit to providers who have services throughout the Eastern Region, as they will only have to submit one set of paperwork and, if approved, the accreditation will be accepted throughout the Region.

Although the paperwork will change, the process will be similar and it has been agreed that external passporting criteria will remain the same.

Hertfordshire will begin this process in January 2007, when the first providers are due to be re-accredited. It has been agreed by the Eastern Region that the process of attaining each accreditation will be kept to a strict three month time limit.

Once your accreditation pack arrives you will have 6 weeks to return all required paperwork and evidence. On receipt of the completed paperwork the Supporting People team and Adult Care Services Finance will then have 6 weeks to complete the Accreditation process.

As part of this regional accreditation organisations are required to carry out Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) checks on all staff working with any vulnerable service users. This should include any volunteers who work directly with vulnerable service users without supervision from a member of staff.

Previously this has been good practice within Hertfordshire but this is now become enforceable under the regional accreditation agreement and will be a mandatory requirement in any Steady State contract with supporting people.

Please note: You will be required to supply evidence that CRB checks are carried out on all staff when your organisation is re-accredited with Hertfordshire County Council supporting people team.
