7. Maximising efficiency savings

Providing excellent services in the most costeffective way, continually striving to make savings by being innovative and efficient - is Hertfordshire County Council’s duty.

In order to respond to rising cost pressures and minimise the need for service reductions, it will be necessary to maximise efficiencies.

As part of setting challenging efficiency goals, the Council will be able to respond to the Government’s agenda to deliver efficiency savings without affecting service levels (Gershon efficiency savings) that targets local authorities to deliver 2.5 percent savings each year, over the three years from 2005/06.

Given the scale of the challenge it is also essential that services are reviewed to ensure that they are achieving value for money and support our most important priorities.
