Description

The role of each scrutiny committee is to:

• review or scrutinise decisions made by the Cabinet or officers
• consider matters referred from meetings of the Council (by way of public petition or motions from members) and make recommendations on them to the Council, Cabinet or Chief Officer
• scrutinise and make recommendations to the Council, Cabinet or Chief Officer on any particular areas of policy or service delivery which they have chosen to investigate.

This scrutiny committee will scrutinise issues in the following areas:

• culture (including sport, recreation and tourism)
• public libraries, museums and the arts
• registration of births, marriages and deaths
• fire and rescue
• civil and emergency planning
• trading standards and consumer protection
• the Coroners Service
• crime and disorder reduction
