Rabies Rules May Be Too Restrictive
UK's European Exemption Runs Out In 2008.
Rules for holidaymakers who want to take their pets out of the country may be too restrictive, government scientists have said.
Ministers are reviewing, Britain's regulations on rabies, which insist on animals being vaccinated six months before they can travel to Europe.
Elsewhere in the EU, animals can travel 21 days after they are vaccinated. Britain's special exemption runs out in 2008, prompting the review.
Debby Reynolds, the Chief Veterinary Officer, told the BBC: "Our scientific conclusions do suggest that the controls may be more than is necessary to achieve the level of protection that we want."
