There is a large range of resources available at the Business Information Point at the Central Resources Library to those who are planning to, or are in the process of, starting up their own business.

Business Opportunities
Business Opportunity Profiles provide a collection of fact sheets covering a wide range of career opportunities. Included are some of the less well known occupations e.g. speciality baker, pilates instructor and worm farmer.
Business Information Factsheets supply information on all aspects of running your own business. Both of these are available online on COBRA - the Complete Business Reference Adviser.

Sources of grants and aid for business
A practical guide to the financial support and advisory services available to UK companies from central government, local authorities and regional agencies.

Contains up-to-date legislation relating to income tax, corporation tax and capital gains tax.

Contains up-to-date legislation relating to Stamp Duty, Value Added Tax and climate charge levy.

This title provides access to all aspects of employment law and the rights of employees. Up-dated bi-monthly.

Croner’s health and safety at work
A first point of reference to the Acts, Regulations, Codes of Practice and guidance currently in force in the UK for the control of health and safety at work. It is aimed at those responsible for the health and safety of people at work and also of the general public who may be affected by the activities of those people. Up-dated quarterly.

A wide range of books is available in the reference library and for lending, covering all aspects of marketing. These include advertising, buyer behaviour, marketing plans and quality issues.
