My front-line role
I am the Conservative County Councillor for Hoddesdon North division. The ‘Your Community’ section provides local service information, news, events, and contacts about the area.
I attempt to represent the interests of approximately 14,000 residents of the communities of Hoddesdon by liaising with the local borough councillors.
As is the case with every County Councillor, I have a locality budget of £10,000 a year to spend on community projects in the division. Follow the links for more details of the scheme and details of applications I have previously agreed and declined.
My County Council responsibilities
After being elected in 2009, I served on the Highways and Transport Cabinet Panel and the Community Safety & Culture Cabinet Panel. I currently sit on three Cabinet Panels: Environment, Economy & Community Safety, Highways & Transport and Waste Management.
Personal, professional and political details
My secondary studies were at Finchley County Grammar School. I then studied electronics at The Northern Polytechnic. My first employment was with a radio manufacturer (Perdio Radios) in the early sixties. I progressed to the British Broadcasting Corporation in 1961 where I became, eventually, an Audio Supervisor. Whilst being employed by the BBC, I became part of the first crew to make programmes for the embryonic Open University. It was at this time (1970) that I lived in Waltham Cross until 1981. I continued working with the OU/BBC partnership in Milton Keynes and finally retired from the BBC in 1997. I then became the audio producer for the Open University. I worked in this role until 2006 when I finally retired.
When I met my wife I joined the Conservative Party in Broxbourne. I stood, and was elected to represent Hoddesdon North and Rye Park on the County Council at the last election in 2009.
I am a Freeman of the City of London and a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Firefighters.
