My front-line role
I am the Conservative Councillor for Harpenden South West and Deputy Executive Member for Health and Adult Care. The ‘Your Community’ section provides local service information, news, events and contacts about the area. Click below for more information:
As the county councillor for Harpenden South West, I represent the interests of the 14,400 residents of the community on the County Council. I am also a member of the St Albans City and District Council, representing Harpenden South West. I am the portfolio holder for Planning and Conservation on that council, serving on the six member cabinet there.
I work closely with Harpenden Town Council and its councillors and our Member of Parliament, The Rt Hon Peter Lilley MP.
Residents who wish to raise any issue with me are welcome to do so at any time, whether by e-mail, letter or telephone. I will always deal promptly with casework issues.
As is the case with every County Councillor, I have a locality budget of £10,000 a year to spend on community projects in my division. Follow the links for more details of the scheme and details of applications I have previously agreed and declined.
My County Council responsibilities
I have been a member of Hertfordshire County Council since 2008. I became Deputy Executive Member for Health and Adult Care in May 2011, having served as Deputy Executive Member of Highways and Transport for two years since May 2009.
In my executive role, I support Councillor Colette Wyatt-Lowe, the Executive Member for Health and Adult Care and act as Vice Chairman to the Health and Adult Care Service Cabinet Panel. I am a member of the Learning Disability Partnership Board and Chairman of the Hertfordshire Carers Forum.
I also serve on the Education Cabinet Panel and the Waste Management Cabinet Panel
Roles on outside bodies
In a personal capacity, I am a non Executive Director of The Harpenden Trust. I am a governor of The Grove Junior School, Harpenden, where I am currently Chairman of the Governing Body, and Chairman of the Harpenden Christmas Carnival Committee. I am also a member of Harpenden Village Rotary.
Personal, professional and political
I was born in Middlesex, but raised and educated in Hertfordshire. After A-levels I joined Lloyds Bank, but after a year decided to take a Senior Secretarial Course at the City of London Polytechnic. Whilst at the Polytechnic I took my Part 1 qualification to become a Chartered Secretary. I achieved my final qualification in 1981 and became a Member of the Chartered Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators. I worked for a major FTSE 250 company in London for nearly 30 years where I became the Assistant Company Secretary. In 2006 I was made redundant and joined a firm of Company Secretarial and Corporate Governance Practitioners, on a part time basis. I am fortunate that my part time contract allows me to carry out my County and District roles.
I have been involved in politics since my teens and met my husband in the Young Conservatives. I was elected to Harpenden Town Councillor in 1990 and served as Town Mayor from 2000 to 2001. In 2001 I was elected to St Albans City and District Council.
I have been married for nearly 25 years and have one son.
