My front-line role
I am the Conservative County Councillor for Welwyn Garden City South.
The ‘Your Community’ section provides local service information, news, events, and contacts about the area.
My division includes Hollybush, Howlands, and parts of Panshanger and Peartee Wards
As is the case with every County Councillor, I have a locality budget of £10,000 a year to spend on community projects in the division. Follow the links for more details of the scheme and details of applications I have previously agreed and declined.
My County Council responsibilities
I currently sit on the Audit Committee, Pensions Committee and Pensions Investment Sub-Committee and the Health and Adult Care Cabinet Panel. I am also a member of the Welwyn Hatfield Highways Joint Members Panel which ensures that I work closely with my Borough colleagues.
Roles on outside bodies
I sit on the Hertfordshire East Fostering Panel and am a member of the East and North Herts NHS Trust. I am a Board Member of Welwyn Hatfield Citizens Advice Bureau.
Personal, professional and political details
I was born and raised in Birmingham and began my professional career with the actuarial team of a Scottish insurance company. I have always worked in the financial services sector and have specialised in Occupational Pensions since 1974. I currently run a small business offering services to pension scheme trustees.
I still support Aston Villa though I find it difficult to make the time to watch them play.
The highlight of my week is the couple of hours I volunteer at the Gateway Club at the Jim MacDonald Centre in Hatfield. The Gateway Club provides entertainment for people with mental and/or physical incapacity and has been run by volunteers for over forty years. The dedication of the people running the Club is a constant inspiration for me.
As a politician I believe it is my duty to serve the interests of my constituents and not the other way round. It may not gain many headlines but I do believe that sound finances are the foundation upon which sustainable services are built. This is why I tend to sit on committees with a financial aspect.
