My front line role
I am the Liberal Democrat County Councillor for Chells Division of Stevenage on Hertfordshire County Council (HCC). The ‘Your Community’ section provides local service information, news, events and contacts about the area.
I am also a Councillor on Stevenage Borough Council (SBC) for Manor Ward which covers Chells Manor, Mobbsbury and Valerian Way areas, first elected in 1982, and have been Leader of the Liberal Democrat Group on SBC for most of that time since then.

As is the case with every County Councillor, I have a Locality Budget of £10,000 a year to spend on community projects in the division. Follow the links for more details of the scheme and details of applications I have previously agreed and declined.

Chells and Manor Public Forum. Along with councillor colleagues from Manor Ward and also neighbouring Chells Ward, I help to organize and attend these meetings, which are for any local resident of Chells or Manor Wards.

Personal, professional and political details
I have lived in Stevenage since 1961. I was educated at: Camps Hill School, The Nobel School, the University of Birmingham and the University of Cambridge. I have a BSc. Honours degree in Physics and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE).
I have worked as a teacher of Physics and Science in Hertfordshire and surrounding areas from 1974 onwards.
I joined the Social Democratic Party (SDP) at its formation in 1981 and transferred to the Liberal Democrats when the SDP merged with the Liberal Party in 1988.
I was first elected to SBC in 1982, and have served on SBC 1982-1990, 1991-1995, 1996- the present.
I was first elected to HCC in 2005 and have served on HCC since then.
I stood for Parliament at the General Election of 9.4.1992 for Welwyn Hatfield.
Some of my interests are: radio broadcasting, travel, astronomy/space, theatre and the 1960s.
