My front-line role
I am the County Councillor for the Kings Langley division, and have represented the villages of Kings Langley, Bovingdon, Chipperfield, Flaunden, Felden and Bourne End since 2003. The ‘Your Community’ section provides local service information, news, events and contacts about the area. Click below for more information:
Your Community
Within the Kings Langley division there are four Parish Councils, two Dacorum Borough wards with five Borough Councillors and two MPs. Mike Penning MP serves Kings Langley and David Gauke MP the South West Herts villages. I have a good working relationship with all these individuals and organisations.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me about your issues in the ward. I prefer email but I can be contacted by phone at home, on the mobile, at the office or of course by post. You may also find that this website may have the answers you are looking for.
I have a locality budget of £10,000 with which I support organisations that are active in our local communities. Last year I spent all of this on 21 organisations. Follow the links for more details of the scheme and details of applications I have previously agreed and declined. Again, give me a quick call or send an email to start things off.
My County Council responsibilities
I am the Executive Member responsible for children’s services on the county council and chair the children and corporate parenting panel. My previous role was at cabinet level and covered performance and partnerships, prior to that I chaired the waste management and education panels.
Roles on outside bodies
I am one of Hertfordshire’s representatives on the County Council Network (CCN) and the Local Government Association (LGA).
This year will see the formation of the county-wide Health and Wellbeing Board. I will represent children’s services on the board.
I have just become a trustee of the Crouchfield Trust.
Kings Langley School is a fast growing and constantly improving secondary school, where I serve as a governor.
Personal, professional and political
I was born in Shrewsbury and educated at the Priory grammar school and then Sheffield University, studying Geology. I spent ten years in various roles in the oil industry, a career that took me all over the world, before landing in Hertfordshire.
I am married with two children. I have just stood down as a Councillor on Dacorum Borough Council after ten years, the last four as chairman of the planning committee.
I have a master’s degree in environmental studies from Strathclyde University.
I do not find enough time to play tennis, garden, cycle or climb mountains.
