My front-line role
I am the Liberal Democrat County Councillor for Nascot Park division. My Division incorporates the Watford Council Wards of Park and Nascot and sits either side of the Hempstead Road leading into Watford. Its south west boundary is the Grand Union Canal, and its North Eastern boundary is the railway tunnels taking the west coast mainline out of Watford. The ‘Your Community’ section provides local service information, news, events and contacts about the area.
I am also the Borough Councillor for Nascot Ward and chair its Overview and Scrutiny Committee. I work closely with my five fellow Borough Councillors assisting them on any issues or questions relating to County matters.
As is the case with every County Councillor, I have a locality budget of £10,000 a year to spend on community projects that are either based in my division or provide significant benefit to my residents. I have always allocated my full allocation and welcomed approaches particularly from smaller local groups who might otherwise struggle to find funds. Follow the links for more details of the scheme and details of applications I have previously agreed and declined.
My County Council responsibilities
I am the opposition spokesperson on Education and Children’s matters and I sit on the two cabinet panels addressing these areas: Education & Skills and Children’s Services & Corporate Parenting. I am a strong supporter of the scrutiny process carried out on the services provided by the Council and regularly sit on, and occasionally chair topic groups where education or children’s services are being considered.
Roles on outside bodies
I am a member of the Management Committee of the Chessbrook Education Support Centre and am on the Management Committee of the Watford Multi-Cultural Community Centre.
Personal, professional and political details
I have recently retired from a career in the IT industry, latterly working in a company producing IT based education systems. My spare time is spent fighting weeds and sometimes growing food on my allotment, watching Saracens, playing golf badly and enjoying being a grandparent.
