My front-line role
I am the Conservative Councillor for Oxhey Park division. The ‘Your Community’ section provides local service information, news, events and contacts about the area.
I represent the interests of 14,000 residents of the three wards of Carpenders Park, Moor Park & Eastbury and Oxhey Hall on the County Council. My county division is unusual in that it falls within two different parliamentary constituencies. I work closely with both Members of Parliament, David Gauke who represents South West Hertfordshire and Richard Harrington who represents Watford.
Whilst this Division sits entirely within Three Rivers District, two wards (Carpenders Park and Oxhey Hall) are in Watford Rural Parish Council and one ward (Moor Park & Eastbury) is in the Rickmansworth unparished area. I work closely with the Three Rivers District Councillors, the Watford Rural Parish Councillors for the same areas, and also with active residents’ associations and community groups.
Residents who wish to raise any issue with me are welcome to do so at any time, whether by e-mail, letter or telephone. I will always deal promptly with casework issues.
As is the case with every County Councillor, I have a locality budget of £10,000 a year to spend on community projects in the division. Follow the links for more details of the scheme and details of applications I have previously agreed and declined.
My County Council responsibilities
Since May 2011 I have been the Executive Member for Education and Skills having previously held Cabinet Responsibility for Transformation.
In the 1990s I was the first chairman of the County Council’s Standards Committee, before the Chairman had to be independent of the Council. I have previously served on the Police Authority. Under a previous administration, I held the Conservative Education portfolio.
Personal, professional and political details
I have lived in my division of Oxhey Park for over 30 years. My first degree is in mathematics and statistics, and I hold a Masters Degree in Business Administration which was taken as a mature student. My professional background is in finance and while my family was growing up, in teaching. I became a Three Rivers District Councillor in 1988, serving for eight years and Chairing the Environment Committee. I was first elected to the County Council in 1989. I stood down in 2001 to pursue a full-time career in school administration and I was re-elected in 2009.
