My front-line role
I am the Conservative County Councillor for Potters Bar East division. The ‘ Your Community’ section provides local service information, news, events, and contacts about the area.
I represent approximately 14,000 residents. I work in conjunction with my fellow County Councillor, John Usher and the nine Hertsmere Borough councillors for Potters Bar.
As is the case with every County Councillor, I have a locality budget of £10,000 a year to spend on community projects in the division. Follow the links for more details of the scheme and details of application have previously agreed and declined.
My County Council responsibilities
Since being elected as a County Councillor in May 2000 I have sat on various committee including Development Control, Standards, Overview & Scrutiny and Health Scrutiny.
Roles on outside bodies
I sit on a number of community organisations: Thames Region Flood and Coastal Committee, Hertsmere Joint Highways Panel, Herts Building Preservation Trust, Foundation Governor and Director of Dame Alice Owens School.
Personal, professional and political details
I served in the Royal Air Force from 1951 to 1953 (national service) and worked as a toolmaker between 1953 and 1955. I joined the Metropolitan Police in 1955 and worked my way to Detective Inspector before retiring in 1984. During my time with the Metropolitan Police I received 13 commendations from Commissioners, Judges and the Director of Public Prosecution.
I was Deputy Chief Security/Fire Officer at BP International Ltd between 1984-1989 and worked for the Metropolitan Police Civic Branch between 1990 and 1993.
I was elected as Hertsmere borough councillor in 1994 and served until 2010 when I stepped down.
