My front-line role
I am the ConservativeCounty Councillor for Harpenden North East division. The ‘Your Community’ section provides local service information, news, events, and contacts about the area.
All three local senior schools are in my area as well as most of the junior schools. Two main roads pass through the division, the A1081 and B 653. I work with the eight town councillors and six district councillors who represent wards within the division.
As is the case with every CountyCouncillor , I have a locality budget of £10,000 a year to spend on community projects in the division. Follow the links for more details of the scheme and details of application have previously agreed and declined.
My County Council responsibilities
I have just completed two years as Chairman of the County Council
(2009-11). Previous to that I served as Chairman of the Health Scrutiny Committee. In my fourteen years as a member of the County Council I have undertaken a number of roles, including the chairmanship of the Protection Committee, which had responsibility for the Fire Service, Trading Standards, the Registration Service and Emergency Planning. I have also served as a County Council member on the Police Authority.
Roles on outside bodies
Currently I serve on the London Luton Airport Consultative Committee. I am a Trustee of the Batford Memorial Hall and Trustee and director of Harpenden Day centre Association.
Previously I have served as a school governor and been a member and chairman of St Albans CAB. I was also an active member of The Harpenden Trust for many years
Personal, professional and political details
I was born in Mid Wales and came to Hertfordshire in the early sixties. I am married with three grown up children and we moved to Harpenden in 1972.
I am a qualified accountant and have held a number of senior management appointments. When I retired in 1998 I was made an Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians .
