This is a restored 18th century working flour mill, water-powered and producing flour (subject to demand for flour and weather conditions). The museum has three small galleries housing local artefacts, from Roman times to present day. Special exhibitions are held. There is milling every week on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Sundays. Craft demonstrations and special events are held during summer weekends, inlcuding cream teas on Summer Sundays.

School parties are welcome, and group visits can be made by appointment. Admission is free, but donations are welcome.

The museum is the home of the Welwyn Hatfield Museum Service.

The Mill has facilities available for hire - Bright room on mezzanine, with projector and screen, overlooking objects in the museum stores. Room booking £130 per day £80 per half day.

Opening hours:
  • Tuesdays to Fridays 10.00am-5.00pm
  • Weekends and Bank Holidays 2.00pm-5.00pm.

Costs:
As of 1st April 2011 there will be an entry fee of £2.50.

Directions:
Between Hatfield and Welwyn Garden City at the junction of the A1000 and the A414.
