Exploring your Sexuality
The age at which you may begin to question your sexuality depends on the person.
We are all unique and so are our feelings and emotions. For many people sexuality will begin to be an issue during puberty, this can happen at any time between 10 and 15 years old.
But you may still be confused at a much older age - there's no right or wrong way or time to discover your sexuality.
Many people have some kind of feelings for someone of the same sex during their life, this doesn't necessarily mean anything, it's just a part of growing older and discovering yourself.
If feelings for people of the same sex happen more frequently then there may be something more substantial to consider. Deciding what your emotions are telling you is never easy, so do not rush the process.
Talking to people can help you get to the bottom of the problem but you might want to keep your feelings secret. You can get confidential advice. One Stop Shops offer free, confidential help (follow the link on this page to find your local shop).
If you reach the decision that you prefer people of the same sex then you don't have to tell the world straight away. Nor do you have to do anything about the way you feel.
Bide your time and make small steps when you feel ready. Once you are ready to have a relationship remember to act carefully and ask for advice if you need to.
