Youth Opportunity and Capital Fund - 'The Big Spend'

Big Spend

Get in your bids ASAP

The Government have provided a fund for young people (aged 13-19 years) to spend on positive activities.

The great news is that young people in Hertfordshire have a say in choosing how the money is spent!

In fact, young people are the only ones who are allowed to choose and make the bids so it’s all down to you to decide what you would like and need!

In Herts we have a combined budget of just over £1million to spend per year.

So how would you spend it?

  1. To buy your group some new equipment, such as sports, DJ/MC’ing and media equipment?
  2. To improve the facilities for your group, perhaps creating a computer suite, chill-out room or a new sports facility?
  3. To pay for specialist tutors or instructors to come to your group, such as football coaches, dance or film media tutors?
  4. To form a new group, such as a new sports or film-making club?
  5. To develop a project which supports other young people in your community?

These are just some of the projects that young people in Herts have already received funding for, so what are you waiting for?

What you need to do to get funding?

  1. 1. Download the attachments at the bottom of the page, read through the step by step guide and print out the application form.
  2. 2. Get together with a group of friends/colleagues to decide what you want to apply for.
  3. 3. Find an adult who would be willing to support your application, this could be a youth worker, teacher or a parent.
  4. 4. Work out roughly how much it will cost to make your idea happen
  5. 5. Complete the application form with your group and send it to:
The BIG Spend, Hertfordshire Youth Service, Apsley Two, Brindley Way, Hemel Hempstead, HP3 9BF or email us
  6. 6. The group leader will then be contacted by Steve Madden with any questions to do with the application.
  7. 7. A panel of young people will make a decision whether to approve it based on the information that you have provided.

Please note: If you would prefer a hard copy of the application pack please send an email to YOF@hertscc.gov.uk or a text to 07765 897988 including your name and address requesting one. Alternatively contact Steve on 01442 454067.

If you are interested in becoming a decision maker either email yof@hertscc.gov.uk or text 07765 897988 with your details (e.g. name, age, address, contact number) or contact Steve on 01442 454067
