Straight Talking Recruitment and Retention Campaign for Qualified Social Workers and Managers in CSF Area Teams

What is Straight Talking?

It is a commitment to honest two-way communication between existing staff, new applicants and Managers in CSF, Social Care Area Teams at Hertfordshire County Council. It is about the need to move forward in a positive way to meet the needs of the service, as well as working to improve the way that we support and develop our staff.

By listening to and consulting with CSF, Social Workers from Area Teams we have worked to develop a Recruitment and Retention campaign which encompasses these Straight Talking ideals outlining what you can expect from us and what we, in return expect from you.

Benefits of Working as a Permanent CSF Social Worker

  • Salary of up to £34,140 pa - full salary range from £23,749 - £26,067 for level 2, £27,594 - £29,728 for level 3 and £30,598 - £34,140 pa for a Senior Practitioner.
  • Up to £6,000 relocation expenses available to Social Workers who at the time of appointment are living over 25 miles from their new workbase, and move significantly nearer to their new workbase. Money can be used as a rent subsidy or in order to assist with the bills associated with purchasing a new property e.g legal fees, estate agent fees. Leaflets available on request.
  • Annual Market Forces Bonus of £2,000.
  • Welcome Payment of £1000, paid to Area Team Social Workers applying by 31st December 2008.
  • London Fringe Allowance of up to £769 pa (depending on location)
  • Minimum 30 days paid annual leave per year, excluding Bank Holidays
  • A brand new Peugeot or Toyota from as little as £30 per month (prices variable) through our generous lease car scheme, with an employer’s subsidy of up to £190 per month. The package covers insurance, servicing, breakdown and road tax.
  • Final salary pension scheme with an employers contribution of approximately 17.1% (equivalent to as much as £5,825 per annum)
  • Generous Occupational Maternity Pay in addition to Statutory Maternity Pay
  • Eligible to receive Occupational Sick Pay when commencing employment with HCC in addition to Statutory Sick Pay
  • A comprehensive induction training package as well as access to ongoing training and development opportunities (for details please take a look at the Learning and Development in CSF pages on Connect)
  • Support for PQ CSF pay the fees for approx 50 staff across the various award levels each year. The PQ awards are linked to the staff progression scheme for Social Workers. Mentoring support is provided for students as well as a dedicated L&D Officer. Paid time out of the office to study is also provided
  • Earn up to £1,400 as an Offsite Practice Assessor or £775 as Onsite Practice Assessor with training provided at the University of Hertfordshire or the University of Bedfordshire
  • Counselling and support from Carewell, the Council’s employee welfare provider, offering free, confidential counselling, citizen’s advice and management coaching
  • Key Worker Housing - Low cost home ownership and intermediate rent properties and products are available for Key Workers.
    • Rented and Shared Ownership Accommodation - Various Housing Associations and Borough/District Councils have provided rented and shared ownership accommodation for Key Workers.
