Join the library online

You can join the library if you live, work or study in Hertfordshire. It is free and enables you to use our full range of services.

It is also free to borrow books. There are charges for some other library services, but concessions are available for certain users.

Join online by following the link at the bottom of the page and then filling in your details. You will then be given a temporary membership number and PIN. You can use this to reserve up to 3 items straightaway, but you will not be be able to borrow anything or use the elibrary until you have your library card.

You will need to visit any Hertfordshire library with your temporary number to collect your card within 6 weeks. We will need to see something official with your current name and address, eg a bank statement, driving/TV licence or utility bill. If you are under 16 you will need an adult aged over 18 with you who will agree to be responsible for the items you borrow and any charges. A parent or guardian is best.

Your membership will expire in 6 weeks if you have not visited a Hertfordshire library to collect your membership card.

Byelaws
By applying for membership, you are agreeing to observe the rules and byelaws of the library. Click on the link called 'Library byelaws' to read the byelaws.
