Museums throughout Hertfordshire are offered support and advice by the Museum Development Officer. Museums can contact the MDO directly for advice on funding applications, partnership projects and advice about best practice in museum.
There are over 40 museums in Hertfordshire housed in an eclectic mix of buildings, including in schools, churches, mills and forges. There are small museums housed in, and run by, their local communities, as well as larger museums such as Verulamium in St.Albans or the Natural History Museum in Tring.
A visit to a museum can be an interesting and rewarding experience for all ages. The varied collections housed in the counties museums range include social history, archaeology. Today’s museums are vibrant, lively places with plenty to see and do for everyone.

Hertfordshire Association of Museums
Membership of this association is open to museums and heritage organisations on payment of an annual subscription and applications are welcomed from Hertfordshire and surrounding counties. The Association provides a network of support for all staff, volunteers and trustees in museums with the aim of increasing awareness and raising standards in areas including professional development, completing successful grant applications, learning & access and support with Arts Council Accreditation
Members of the association have access to the Museum Development Officer (MDO) for advice either by phone, email or museum visits, tailored to individual needs as well as regular email updates on local, county, regional and national initiatives. There are two network groups, one for those with curatorial responsibilities and one for those involved with delivering learning activities both formal and informal. These lively and informative meetings are held quarterly in museums around the county and all member organisations are invited to attend.
An annual meeting of the association is held in the autumn. The meeting is open to all members who are encouraged to invite trustees and stakeholders to attend. An annual report will be produced and will be available from this site in late autumn 2013.
If you would like to join please see attached document or contact the museum development officer for Hertfordshire directly on firstname.lastname@example.org.
