Ordering documents

Visitors are recommended to order documents in advance where possible.

It may not be possible to view documents on a Saturday unless they have been pre-ordered. This is the case if they are located in our offsite storage (please select the link 'Collections held in offsite storage' below for further information). If you would like to view original documents on a Saturday, please pre-order documents at least 24 hours in advance. You can do this via our online document ordering form.

The form is submitted directly to Hertfordshire Archives and Local Studies. We will not reply to your request unless there is a problem with your order.

Document reference numbers are required and there is a maximum limit of three items per order. You will be able to order more items during your visit, once you have finished with those you have pre-ordered.

Please note that original documents cannot be produced during the last hour before closing.

You do not need to pre-order microfilms or any items available in the Local Studies Library.

For all other enquiries, please email hertsdirect@hertfordshire.gov.uk

Please see the page 'Opening hours - plan your visit' for more information on our procedures.
