Hertfordshire’s Tithe Maps Now Available to Buy

Hertfordshire Archives & Local Studies are proud to launch their series of tithe map CDs.  These beautifully hand drawn and coloured maps dating from 1834 to 1851 are often the earliest large-scale maps for a parish in existence.

The tithe maps for more than 120 Hertfordshire parishes have been digitised and their corresponding awards transcribed as part of a three-year project.  They are an amazing resource for anyone interested in the history of Hertfordshire – whether they are local or family historians.  On each parish map you can zoom in and see each house and field and then use the indexes included to see who rented and owned each building or plot.

For the price of £35 per parish, you will get:

•  A high resolution map which can easily be viewed using the installed Archangel software (MS Windows only)
• Indexes showing you who owned and occupied each house, field and plot identified on the map (as PDF files)
