Climate change

Climate change is a natural process. 'Man-made' climate change is the recent warming of the Earth, and its associated impacts, that are being primarily driven by a rise in greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide (CO2) and methane.

We recognise that climate change is likely to be one of the most challenging issues ever, not only for our own organisation, but for everyone living and working in Hertfordshire. But it also creates opportunities, such as:

  • More efficient use of resources, which not only saves money, but also helps to preserve natural resources.
  • Technological innovation.
  • A potential boost to the economy.

The County Council is committed to tackling climate change and preparing for its impacts. We are already doing a lot of work to reduce our own impact on the environment.

The following pages provide more information on climate change in Hertfordshire and what the Council is doing about it.
